AIM

We believe that learning is a process that can be seen. We do not believe that it is a school’s job to elicit learning and then verify it after the fact. Our aim is to see the process of learning and to understand the process of your child’s knowing, thinking and doing, and then to pass this information on to you. Our goal is to help you more fully understand your child.

We provide a daily newsletter with text and pictures to keep you fully informed on your child's progress.

Constant Information

Welcome to the information age! To make the best decisions for your child, we consider it our responsibility to keep you informed on a daily basis as to the progress of your child’s education. At pick up time, qualified staff are on hand to inform you of your child’s daily progress and development. Too busy to stop and chat today? No problem! We have daily newsletters with pictures and descriptions of the children’s activities. Each newsletter comes with an average of 45 pictures showing the children engaging in project work and other activities. These newsletters are also archived on our website so that parents (including grandparents from anywhere in the world) children and teachers can have direct access to the history of the school at any time. Documentation of the children’s daily activities also plays a critical role in determining our curriculum. We record your child’s conversations to determine their interests and what it is they are keen to learn. We also document and record each and every stage of your child’s development as they progress and grow through the various stages of their time with us. Why is this important? Just as you would not send your child to an unqualified doctor, qualified BKI staff are able to understand any developmental problems that your child may be facing and make recommendations accordingly. Teachers at Bilingual Kids are passionate researchers!

At BKI, clock time does not have priority over your child's needs.

TIME

We remember what it is like to be a child. Therefore, in comparison to traditional methods, our timetable is flexible and very relaxed. You child’s own sense of time and their personal rhythm are considered in planning and carrying out experiences and projects. Children are most receptive in this environment.

Team planning guarantees that you child will be frequently engaged in their own interests.

A PROGRESSIVE CURRICULUM

You will know from your own experience, that you learn most quickly from that in which you are interested. Our emergent curriculum builds upon the interests of your child which is determined from the research information gathered. Team planning between teachers is used to make hypothesis about possible directions of a project and this is then re-discussed with the children to move a project forward.

THE PROJECT APPROACH

Always an adventure, learning is not limited to a day’s activities. It is ongoing. A project is an in-depth study of concepts, ideas and interests which come from the group. Projects last for as long as the children are interested. It may even continue throughout the year. Our children are therefore excited to come to “school” every day! One of the many ways the children explore a project is through the construction of art. If you are interested in seeing a small sample of the variety of work that the children do please have a look at the gallery page.
